I am just back from Crestone, Colorado where I recorded my latest CD, Return to the River, in a Japanese Monastery.

We had a team of thirteen people......four traditional Japanese Musicians, including taiko drummers, Kenny Endo & Koji Nakamura, Koto player, Yukiko Matsuyama, Shakuhachi flutist, David Wheeler, as well as, Poet, Timothy McLaughlin, Singer, Maureen Murphy, Sound Engineer, David Cragin, producer and pianist, John Rangel, photographer, Kate Russell, housing, food and transportation angel, Matthew Crowley, Meals by Naoko & Naohoko and support in numerous areas, Mr. Guy Standing.
Traditional Japanese Songs mixed with Madi's original songs. Featuring Kenny Endo and Koji Nakamura, taiko drummers, David Wheeler, shakuhachi flute, Yukiko Matsuyama, koto player, John Rangel, producer, David Cragin, sound engineer, Maureen Murphy, support vocalist, Timothy P. McLaughlin, poet. Recorded January 2011 in Crestone, Colorado at a Zen Monastery.
We spent five days in the sacred vibrations of the temple, in prayer, meditation and creativity. It was the deepest and easiest CD project I've ever been involved with. We completed all songs for the album plus wonderful spontaneous compositions that emerged from all of the artists collaborating together. Everything flowed. Everyone involved had such powerful intentions of heart and I feel that the music is infused with love. It has been a dream of mine for many years to record a CD in a sacred space and to have the opportunity to dive into sacred space and music was a true gift and blessing. I believe that everyone was transformed.

This week I am recording background vocals with the amazing Maureen Murphy and viewing video footage from this past week's Temple recording. There's still much to be done before the release of this CD and it will require a bit more funding to complete but we certainly have accomplished more than I expected to thus far and I am grateful for that. Thank you to all who are supporting this project on many levels. May you all be blessed with abundance of love and joy. I will keep you up to date as the project moves along.

Furu Sato is a traditional Japanese song about longing to return to one's hometown. I recorded for my family in Sendai, Japan. This goes out to all suffering during the time of the tsunami/earthquake. May this song be a prayer to bring light and love to all in Japan. All of the images are from Sendai, Japan...which are mostly washed away now. The woman in the pink shirt is my missing Aunt, Kyoko Ouchi. May she be surrounded by light. I have been in contact with my aunt in Tokyo....She said that my family evacuated Sendai but she has not spoken directly to them. She only received a text message from them. We don't know where the Sato's are currently. I pray they are safe. My eldest uncle, Katsuji San had to leave Sendai by car and he was alone. No one has heard from him yet. My grandmother is 96 and I am sure she would have a hard time leaving her home in Sendai. Thank you for you prayers. I'll let you know when I hear more information. Japan is in a state of chaos right now as the trains and communications are down. There is a lot of suffering happening. Sending love and light to everyone there. love,

Just got word that my grandmother, aunt and cousin are ok! Thank you everyone for your prayers. 
Sendai Family update... My grandmother is in the area where the tsunami has hit. She was in a nursing home and it sounds like all the elderly in that home had evacuated to the roof when the tsunami hit. Her actual home where many of my family live together (including 2 uncles, 5 cousins, 2 aunts and grandmother) was in the line of the tsunami and the temple where my ancestors are buried for over 400 years appear to have been hit. This is the gravesite of my father as well. Keep sending your energy, chants and prayer to Sendai. So much devastation. 4 more of my family members are inside a school building in Sendai. There is only one family member still missing. Her name is Kyoko Ouchi. Thank you all for your prayers. Madi

My uncle, Tadao Sato and his son, Takahiro are going into Sendai right now to see if they still have a home.

I just got word that it appears that the home went underwater and the car went through the house. My grandmother (Ishi) and 2 of my uncles families' all live together in houses which are side by side. Life will not be the same for the Sato's in Sendai. Our ancestor's have been in Sendai for over 300 years. I lived in Sendai as a child and spent time at my Grandmother's home. Several years ago I lived with Grandma for 3 months and it breaks my heart that their homes were destroyed. The Sato's worked two rice fields across the street when I was a child and my grandmother made daily trips to the temple across the street where my ancestor's are. I have so many memories of my grandmother riding her bike around the neighborhood and visiting her friends. She still went out to the fields at the age of 94 to collect left over soybeans. There is still no word about her condition or her whereabouts. We last heard that she had evacuated to the rooftop of a nursing home when the tsunami hit. More later.

Thank you All who have sent so many prayers and blessings to my family in Sendai. My grandmother is accounted for. I'm not sure of her condition as well as the rest of the family. I got an email from my cousin, Takashi Sato this morning which said that he is returning to work today because he is Japanese. He evacuated from Sendai when the tsunami hit and went to Tokyo where my Auntie lives. It is touching to see the nature of response from the Japanese people....one of calm, joining together and moving forward.

Quake Toll expected to exceed 20,000
This figure is beyond understanding. Japan has been transformed forever and in fact the entire earth has shifted. Our world is becoming a new world. May we pray for renewal of the earth and compassion for one another.

There is only one Aunt, Kyoko Ouchi still missing in Sendai. Her home was in Natori City which is very close to the ocean. The rest of my family are now all accounted for including my Grandmother. It appears that their homes were hit by the tsunami and they are taking up shelter various places in Sendai. Thank you and may we continue to send our prayers to those affected by this crisis.

I had a dream last night of walking on the streets of Tokyo and it was snowing. People were huddled together.....homeless and cold. In the Santa Fe New Mexican this morning it said that "temperatures have dropped and snow fell overnight." "Yesterday we ate a bit of rice and one egg," said Yoshiko Tsuzuki, 55, homemaker waiting in a line outside a grocery store on the outskirts of the battered city of Sendai. Visualize food, water and shelter for everyone displaced by the quake.  I have started a fund to help my family with the basics (food and clothing).  Sendai residents will need a lot more to rebuild their homes.  Concerned, Madi

I have received over 400 "prayer and blessing" emails regarding the Japan quake. All of your intentions of love create healing....so powerful. I am deeply grateful. In the midst of sorrow is so much kindness coming from all over the planet. I got an email from my uncles who say they cannot return to work because there is no gasoline for their cars. Instead they are spending time together and cleaning up their neighborhoods and sharing modest meals, wearing the same clothing. It is touching.  My grandmother wears a yellow rain jacket from the relief workers who rescued her.  A new world is birthing.  I send light to my missing aunt, Kyoko Ouchi of Natori City in Sendai.

It has been a week since the devastating tsunami....please keep the Japanese people in your hearts....send them love....their suffering is sinking in. They will not return to their homes in a long while if ever again. It is breaking my heart to see photos of my family's homes completely destroyed. Most of us here take for granted that we can return home daily to find comfort and rest...May the Japanese be comforted and restored. My aunt, Kyoko Ouchi is still missing. She is the one in the youtube video in a pink sweater. I post my video again to keep reminding all of us of just one family of many in devastation. The song is called "Furu Sato" and is about longing to return home. The photos are of Sendai and my family....before the tsunami. May the Satos hold memories of their home sweetly in their hearts when they feel sorrow. Light a candle so that we remember to keep sending prayers daily. With sadness in my heart, Madi

Thank you for your prayers! My Aunt, Kyoko Ouchi is ok! I received a message from family this morning that they finally talked to her. Her home was hit by the tsunami but she is alive! I also connected with my friend Tomoaki Yoshida on skype this evening and he gave me the most amazing report of the people of Sendai. I will share more as I can.
