Madi Sato: Return to the River Concert in Santa Fe, April 1st

    • Return to the River Concert
      Sunday, April 1st, 2012

      4:00pm

St. Joseph’s Catholic Church  7 First Street Cerrillos, NM

Japanese-American singer and songwriter Madi Sato will appear in concert to honor the one-year memorial of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Sendai, Japan. She will be accompanied by renowned taiko drummer Koji Nakamura, celebrated koto player Yukiko Matsuyama, and master pianist John Rangel.

Last winter, Madi recorded an album of Japanese music in a meditation temple at the Crestone Colorado Mountain Zen Center. The resulting album, Return to the River (Madi’s third), includes traditional music from her late father’s homeland of Sendai as well as her original compositions. It moves like a river through the turns and movements of Madi’s life, both in America and Japan, and features voice, koto, shakuhachi, taiko drums, piano, bass and sounds of nature.

This concert will bring the musicians of the Return to the River album back together for a special one-time performance in an intimate and sacred setting.

A portion of the proceeds from CD sales will go to the non-profit organization, KASA: Kindness America – Sendai Alliance. KASA aims to provide relief to smaller villages in the Sendai region and to facilitate meaningful exchanges of kindness between Japanese and Americans. To make a donation to KASA, please go to www.kasacommunity.org

Admission at the door is $10 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for children 5 and under.

Vanessie Santa Fe is a proud sponsor of this concert.
